Clarke, who is one of five selectors, admitted that it will be tough leaving out a spinner from a Test side. Ryan Harris and Mitchell Starc are likely to come into the side in place of Lyon and injured quick James Pattinson.

“Without James, we get Ryan Harris back. He’s as good any fast bowler as I’ve played with throughout my career and he’s had a lot of success,” Clarke said on the eve of the match at the WACA.

“So I’m really confident our attack, whether we go with three or four quicks, can do a really good job. These conditions are going to suit fast bowling, especially on day one,” he said.

Clarke was not worried with the war of words between the two teams as long as no one oversteps the mark.

“I know once we take the field they will understand that there is a line and they won’t cross that. If that helps Zaheer Khan play his best cricket and if that helps Brad Haddin play his best cricket then as long as they don’t overstep the mark which I don’t think they have, I think it’s great for the game,” he said.

WACA curator Cameron Sutherland said the media was carried away with the greenish track at the Perth.

“Yeah, absolutely they are. You go out there today and you’ll see it’s lost a fair bit of color with the heat. That was the same last year. It looked really green three days out. It’ll have a green tinge tomorrow, there’s no doubt about it. But it’s certainly not the Incredible Hulk or the green monster any more. And certainly the weather’s been hotter than we first thought … so it’s taken a bit of the sting out of the color,” Sutherland said.
